Biotech Leaders Academy
Summer 2019

Biotech is an industry of the future. With its growing presence in Los Angeles, the LA Bioscience Hub (LABH) wants to ensure that the industry reflects the diversity and dynamism of the region. Biotech Leaders Academy has two components: (1) an entrepreneurship academy and (2) full-time summer internships at local life science companies.

Company Partners
LABH relies on companies to open up internship opportunities for bright, local college students.
Company partners provide one or more internship positions for Summer 2019. LABH will provide companies with candidates who are qualified and hard-working undergraduates from our Los Angeles communities. Companies will be able to meet and interview students as part of our selection process. Internships with bioscience companies and incubators provide students with hands-on work experience that is critical in this competitive field. Your company can be part of our students' academic and professional success. If your company is interested in participating as a Company Partner, please complete this form.

Student Interns
Our students are primarily 2nd and 3rd year undergrads enrolled in local colleges and universities. Students are working towards degrees in biology, microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry, engineering, and more. All of our students will have completed their core undergraduate science and lab courses prior to their summer internships.
See some stats about our students here.

Entrepreneurship Sessions
The entrepreneurship sessions expose students from diverse backgrounds to the spectrum of careers available in the life science industry, including the entrepreneurship pathway. Our five-part seminar introduces students to the complex process of forming a successful biotech company. The sessions equip students with the tools they need for a career in biotechnology and empower them to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities. We foster entrepreneurship through learning modules that cover a variety of topics, including technology transfer, moving research from the lab to commercialization, securing capital, and building a team for success. Through Biotech Leaders Academy, we're cultivating our region’s next generation of bioscience company founders, CEOs, and CTOs. Students meet local industry professionals and connect to local resources that can support their professional growth and success here in LA.

“The Biotech Leaders Academy has connected my organization to talented, enthusiastic students who have far surpassed all expectations we had of them. In 2016 we were thrilled to work with Zi, whose work ethic was beyond compare. He always took the initiative to ask for more work when he finished a task, which allowed our member company to take on more clients than they would otherwise have been able."
