Last month, the LA BioStart Bioscience Entrepreneurs Boot Camp celebrated the graduation of the second cohort of participants. These emerging bioscience entrepreneurs participated in a five-week, intensive training that focused on business fundamentals and leadership skills. The program offers training, mentoring, and workshops - all led by top industry experts.
LA BioStart also awarded its first LA BioStar Award to Wendie Johnston, Director of Pasadena Bio Collaborative Incubator. The award honors the contributions of leaders in the bioscience industry. Dr. Johnston has been an incredible partner to the LA Bioscience Hub, including her efforts to provide transformative experiences for her interns in the Biotech Leaders Academy.
LA BioStart is a collaboration of Cal State LA, the Biocom Institute, and the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI). The program is part of LA BioSpace Incubator, a project by LA County and Cal State LA that will serve as the launching pad for bioscience start-ups in the LA Bioscience Corridor. LA BioSpace will be housed in the Rongxiang Xu Innovation Center at Cal State LA, a 20,000-square foot facility that will provide low-cost space and equipment for up to 25 businesses. Construction on this new facility is scheduled to complete this year.
