We're declaring August Bioscience Entrepreneurship Month!
Just last week, we celebrated the accomplishments of our 3rd cohort of students in the Biotech Leaders Academy. The event was graciously hosted by East LA Community College and we were joined by Supervisor Hilda Solis who shared the importance of cultivating a locally-grown bioscience workforce. Biotech Leaders Academy is a summer program that creates new professional opportunities for East LA’s community college students pursuing life sciences degrees by providing them with entrepreneurship training and industry internships. This year we had 12 students complete our entrepreneurship seminar and we were able to place seven of them in summer internships with local biotech companies! Through the Biotech Leaders Academy, we work to support a new generation of biotech leaders that reflect our region's diversity.
And, earlier this month our friends at Cal State LA hosted a graduation ceremony for the 23 emerging bioscience entrepreneurs who completed their LA BioStart Bioscience Entrepreneurs Boot Camp. LA BioStart is an intensive 5-week program where early-stage bioscience entrepreneurs receive training in business fundamentals, financing models, industrial research and development and other tools essential to starting and sustaining successful bioscience ventures. Read more about LA Biostart's event here.
It's exciting to see LA's bioscience ecosystem working to foster science entrepreneurs at all stages in their careers and we're hopeful and excited for our region's future!
